I’m pretty sure something… yep, something just froze and fell off

I go down to Florida for a couple of days and this is what I get when I come back. Good googalamoogalie it’s cold! Which gives me a great idea for the holiday season…brewing up a lovely, smooth, and subtly warming seasostoutnal oatmeal stout. We have not brewed this particular beer since last year and are looking foward to brewing it tomorrow night and having it ready for any pending Christmas/New Years parties.

We have a couple of goals we would love to accomplish in this beer; Give a heavier and creamy mouthfeel, a rounded roasted barley character, and a very smooth and lingering finish surrounded by sublte coffee aromas. We’ll age 4-5 weeks  and lightly carbonate, keeping close to the British Ale tradition of lower carbonation. This will accentuate the desired flavors in the beer rather than be masked by a spritzy fizz.

Enough of my rambling about a beer that won’t be ready for a month. We have beer to drink now! Beer tastings are every Wednesday as we brew, and I will brag that last Wednesday was incredible thanks to our friends. Come out and join us because a good beer is better with friends and tales never lose in the telling!

Yes, but this one goes to 11!

And that’s exactly how I would rate on a scale of 1 to 10 the success of our first real Wednesday evening brew! Many, many, thanks to all our friends who came out so enthusiastically and in impressive numbers. If, just guessing (cause I was really freakin busy counting plato points and not people), I would say we had 35 folks or so come out! We kicked two kegs in the process and celebrated a birthday all at the same time. It was a mutli-tasking, fun-filled, dance music-bumpin, blowout! Oh, and we brewed some beer…

All went well with the IPA last night. With the exception of being forced to substitute hops, we came pretty close to the original brew of a few weeks ago.

Thanks again for coming out. See you next week.

Monday Goings-On… Goings-on? Is that right?…

Not having to work on a Monday is pretty special… unless, of course, it means working… yup.

What I mean is that our BeerLab has looked like a small explosive device went off sending shrapnel of fittings, washers, and hoses to the far reaches of the house. Luckily, with Jamie cleaning on Sunday and with myself finishing up on Monday, everything looks like a GO for our Wednesday Night brew!

On another note, the three of us were also able to slip away from our busy schedules of washing and feeding each other to make the trek to visit our friends at Monday Night Brewery. The guys were brewing up their Scotch Ale and as always they were as hospitable as ever. If you haven’t had a chance to visit, DO! It’s a good time with good guys and good brew!

What Better Way to Spend Humpdays?!

Okay, so Rob was actually on to something when he got trigger-happy and announced a new-and-improved brew day for us each week. After countless hours, thousands of pages worth of market research, and tons of exit polls from the recent election we’ve concluded that more folks are able to hang out on “Humpdays” (Wednesday referring to getting over the hump in the middle of the week) rather than on Sundays… Apparently, most everyone is either prepping for the upcoming week, has plans, or is simply still recovering from the night before and has zero desire at all to think about beer, much less drink the heavenly beverage.

So I shall now decree without further ado that Wednesday shall now beith the greatest brewith day in the land, so that all men, women, and childr- wait… all men and women may partakeith in our gracious, affluent, and FREE beer!

Okay but for real yall, we will be brewing each Wednesday starting this coming November 12th and hope to continue each week subsequent. This is where you, our friends, come into play. We have limited keg space to hold our finished beer so we have to drink what’s there in order to keg the next batch!

In other words: Help Us Drink Beer! Hooray Beer!

You can contact any of us thru the FaceSpace or Blog, by email, or by tin can phones. We would love your support, feedback, and opinions!

It seems our new recruit got a little trigger happy and shot off a few emails and post prematurely.  If you received that last post via RSS just disregard it.  If you came here looking for updates because of the face book page or a message you received, the brewery/basement is closed to visitors for the remainder of the month.  We are however working a few things and will have some big news coming for November!
